Organic SEO

Organic Search Results

To improve your search ranking, two primary methods are available. "Organic" search engine optimization (SEO) is the processes of obtaining a "natural" placement on organic search engine results pages (SERPs). Organic VS Paid search results have been the two main choices for online marketers since the beginning, and many factors determine how much a website marketer will invest in each. Just to recap, organic search results will appear in the lower portion of the search results (ie: in Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.), which of course are "free." Paid search results appear at the top and sides of the page, and work off a different system, and you must set up an account, with credit card on file to provide funding. Please note: if you do not know what you are doing with paid search results - be careful! It is highly recommended to have an expert setup and manage your Pay-per-click (PPC) campaign and get you on the "fast track" with minimal risk.

Working with many clients and running many campaigns of my own, I've executed many tried and tested campaign techniques which provide maximum search results for the allotted marketing budget. Like the articles suggest, the PPC system is available and running strong, however, ORGANIC searches usually yield higher results in the long term. Research and studies show visitors click on organic results up to 94% of the time. Google is constantly improving it's global search systems, creating more relevant, localized search results for the end user. Since the advent of paid search results, most internet searchers are desensitized (and disappointed) by the bombardment of paid advertisements. All those entries in the top area paid HUGE amounts to have their website at the #1, 2 or 3 position, and what's really bothersome, is sometimes the relevancy is questionable.

Out of all the tips and advise, it all boils down to writing and promoting quality CONTENT for your website. All of Google's algorithm updates are designed to demerit websites which use fake, (copied), misleading, or badly-written content, SO, with that knowledge, there is only one sure way of success. Have an expert write quality page content for your website!

To gain the highest organic search ranking, these basic practices must be done, and performed on your website, which is all included in my SEO Marketing Package. Here are my webmaster recommendations, below. If you are serious about the success of your website, these steps should be performed on a monthly basis:
  • Check website source code, top to bottom, for errors
  • Ensure page tracking code is in place and functioning
  • Analyze key terms used in meta tags
  • Analyze key terms used in page content
  • Check and verify inbound links
  • Check and verify current position
  • Check and verify for poorly formatted content, and all images/text are crawl-able
  • Submit website to relevant directories, check status
  • Generate and submit sitemap to relevant search authorities
  • Create engaging, interesting Content Text, for every page of your website
  • Manage PPC campaign (*if applicable)
  • Social Media Optimization (Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Article Writing and Publishing
  • Ensure website does not infringe on Google's current search algorithm

Google's Algorithm Updates

Keeping up-to-date with what Google is doing to change it's search functionality is another key to success. Below are some highlights and dates Google has revamp their search algorithms:

  • Page Layout, "Top Heavy" (FEB 6, 2014) - penalized sites with too many ads "above the fold"
  • Authorship Shake-up (DEC 19, 2013) - Google reduces tracked searches displaying authorship mark-up
  • Penguin (OCT 4, 2013) - Spam fighting algorithm, knocks off points based on spam (or excessive use of keywords) goes into effect
  • Hummingbird (AUG 20, 2013) - Changes to search include more power to semantic search and the Knowledge Graph
  • Domain Crowding (May 21, 2013) - An update released to control domain crowding/diversity
  • "Phantom" (MAY 9, 2013) - This google update targeted "unnatural links" which hit many websites doing this practice. Also weeded out sites with questionable link source vs. destination, cross-linking, and content scraping.

Google must consistently maintain it's enormous, ever-growing database, and 2013 it made HUGE (and drastic) updates to improve the quality of it's searches. The 2013 list is just a summary, outlining some significant highlights of what the Search Authority is doing to "make the web a better place." This gives a general idea of what ALL sites should strive for to get your website to be noticed, and recognized for it's content without getting "sandboxed", as the industry calls it. Unfortunately, the web is filled with people writing "fake content" and abusing this great internet search system we have. If not for the dishonest people using the world wide web, search engines might not have to create such elaborate systems to disqualify websites, rather than promote them. This means some good, quality sites are being pushed to page 2, 3, + and so forth, simply because nobody is properly writing or maintaining the site. A world of difference it can make when the search engine best-practices are followed.
