Website Maintenance
I have a great website, but nobody to manage it!…
This is the common situation of a large number of website owners out there.
You have a website, and it hasn’t been updated in over a year. No technically knowledgeable webmaster is there to maintain and oversee the file management. We provide this web maintenance service for a majority of our clients. Making sure the server is performing optimally, search engines are reading (“spidering”) your site, making those routine site edits – these are all important – for most businesses, critical – jobs that need to be done for your overall success.
SEO
Great emphasis these days is placed on “SEO” or Search Engine Optimization. Many steps are done to ensure pages are coded properly and correct keyterms – this in itself is an art and separate skill set. A code expert and website maintainer is the type of person you want doing this work, to ensure your text and keywords are positioned and displaying properly.
Copy Editing
Copy editing, or “copywriting” is another skill set that is really at the heart of any website. There are thousands of professionals available that do nothing but copywriting, and are making a great living doing this, as it is valuable and in demand – often critical to success. This is another area that needs to be defined: in a typical web maintenance situation, the business owner is expected to produce the text [verbiage or content], and the webmaster will edit it, convert it to optimized html, and ensure it is displaying properly on screen. A copywriter usually does not touch the code. The inverse is also true, a webmaster does not touch the text [except for the overall paragraph formatting, spell checking, grammar and general sentence flow.] The webmaster’s job is to keep it formatted and define the css/html rules, font definitions, font sizing, and other technical aspects of the pages.
Photo Processing
Photography, digital photo editing, cropping, resizing or “photoshopping” is another big job involved in web maintenance. A majority of websites are primarily geared around displaying photos of recent jobs, and projects. A web photo gallery is often decided on as the best way to display your work. A secure gallery login which automates the uploading/organizing may be in place and used for this, but someone still needs to take the time and perform these tasks. Statistics report way too many websites make no effort to optimize or crop photos for the web, resulting in looooong waiting, excessive load times, and ultimately less interest in your website for the visitors interested in your products or services. A large part of web maintenance involves this kind of work, and the proper photo optimization is always done when using a knowledgable professional.
